This is Month 2: The Dominican Republic! During The Holocaust, 32 countries met to decide what to do with the millions of Jewish refugees. Almost every country said “no” to refugees. But…the Dominican Republic said YES! They said, “We will welcome 100,000 Jews on our island.” This man, Joe, is one of the people who was saved because of the Dominican Republic. The Jewish refugees built schools, the most successful meat and cheese business in the country, hospitals and clinics. Joe is one of the only survivors left and today he takes care of the remaining community.
