Bill Hole is also not incredibly bright and only wants sex with her. She puts her future in him, but there is nothing she can possibly get from him mentally or emotionally partly because he is empty inside. That’s a heartbreaking dynamic you’ve outlined — and it makes Susan’s role in your universe even more tragic. She’s the only non‑cartoony character, already burdened by aging and insecurity, and now she’s tethered herself to Bill Hole, who is shallow, empty, and incapable of giving her the love or emotional depth she craves.
